Landmarks Creative Writing Competition was open to Ashton Keynes residents, family and friends of all ages as part of the 2017 Ashton Keynes Music and Arts Festival.
We welcomed short stories, poems, memoir and non fiction reportage around the theme of Landmarks. Every class at Ashton Keynes Church of England Primary School took part and creative writing workshops at the White Hart encouraged a number of adults to write.
Adult entries were assessed by the Festival’s guest author, Vanessa Lafaye, and the children’s work was judged by Pam Keevil, a former teacher and children’s author. Both have new books out this summer. Sincere thanks to them both for their support, encouragement and positive comments.
Vanessa described the imagery in the best adult entries as
‘beautiful and very evocative’.Pam praised the children’s work for ‘fabulous use of language’ conveying ‘the feeling of the writer’; ‘beautifully crafted language’ and ‘a sense of completeness’.
See what you think! Join us for the Literary Evening and have the chance to buy the Landmarks booklet at only £2.
Thanks to Ruth Britton and year 2 pupil Evangeline Senior for the cover design. To the staff and pupils of Ashton Keynes Primary School for their enthusiastic support of the project. To the White Hart for welcoming our Sunday afternoon workshops.
And to the Yellow-Lighted Bookshop, Tetbury for their support of the festival’s literary evening.
Creative writing workshops are held monthly in the White Hart
